Calling all traditional music and dance lovers!
The Georgian Bay Folk Society is proud to sponsor the Fiddlefern Country Dancers as they present their monthly workshop and Contra Dance this Saturday, March 7th at the Harmony Centre in Owen Sound.
The workshops run from 1-5pm and Scatter the Cats will share strategies for pairing tunes, mixing up the rhythm and groove, and keeping the dance simple but interesting. Caller Kate McLaren will highlight the role of the dance caller with a focus on simple, effective dances.
You can join Scatter the Cats and Kate after the workshops for a Contra Dance at 8pm.

WEEKLY TRADITIONAL MUSIC SESSIONS
New Fiddlefern Country Dancers’ initiatives in 2015 include weekly, open music sessions Tuesday nights, and monthly music, dance and dance calling workshops, in partnership with the Georgian Bay Folk Society.
The new weekly, open, participatory traditional tune sessions start Tuesday, January 13 at 7 p.m. at The Harmony Centre, 890 4th Avenue East, Owen Sound.
They’re for people who enjoy playing dance music, and for those who want to learn the jigs, reels, waltzes, polkas and more, and eventually play the music for dancers. Fiddlefern organizers anticipate a teaching/learning component each week, followed by a social trad tune session to share music.
This should be of interest especially to people who play melody instruments such as fiddle/violin, flute, whistles, pipes, accordion, concertina, banjo, mandolin etc. as well as people pursuing guitar and other instruments more suitable for rhythmic accompaniment.
Interested musicians are encouraged to attend. Contact session organizers Frank Francalanza (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Will Henry (519-371-9413 email@example.com) for more information.
